'The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' Women Are Officially Famous
By Joan Summers
Jul 01, 2025There’s nothing quite like The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives on television, which is partly to blame for the meteoric rise of the cast over the last two years. There’s many, many things like Dancing With the Stars on television, which makes the cast's inclusion in the upcoming season noteworthy, however backwards that might sound. These Mormon Wives are officially everywhere on mainstream television and there’s nothing we can do about it.
On Monday night’s reunion special for The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, host Nick Viall, a former Bachelor turned podcaster, announced that stars Whitney Leavitt and Jen Affleck had been cast in season 34 of the dance competition show. Interestingly, he also said most of the cast had auditioned, which is a bizarre image to picture, considering they probably showed up in a cavalcade of white sweatsuits, too-long hair extensions and prairie dresses.
Most of LA actually dresses the same at this point, so perhaps it’s less weird than I initially imagined. Still, it must be difficult to hit a pirouette in those fabled temple garments!
On Tuesday morning, Leavitt and Affleck appeared via video message on Good Morning America to make the formal announcement, pantomiming dance moves and mocking a fight over the mirrorball. Watch below:
Now, the pair have certainly spent their social media influencer careers preparing for this exact moment. Their claim to fame, besides adjacency to the globally reported “Mormon Swinging Scandal," consists of recreating famous dance moves for the everyday person. Think of them less like dance moves and more like shadows cast on the wall of dance moves done by slightly more talented dancers.
Leavitt also made headlines ahead of the first season for dancing at the hospital bedside of her newborn Lee after the baby was diagnosed with RSV. Affleck, meanwhile, became the accidental main character in the show’s second season while fighting with both her husband and every other person on the cast. Despite being prominently featured in promotional material for the show, interviews and even the reunion special, she even bowed out of production partway through the filming schedule. A note from producers read, in full: “Out of respect for Jen’s privacy, production has made the decision to stop filming with her at this time so she can focus on her mental health.
Despite that, it appears Affleck is both pregnant and back on the grind. Most importantly? She’s ready to take home that Mirrorball Trophy. I can’t wait to see how this turns out!
