Missy Elliott Drops Her First Music 'Collection' in 14 Years Tonight
Aug 22, 2019
Following prolonged health issues related to Graves' disease, a string of one-off singles and guest features (i.e. Lizzo's "Tempo"), and a historic induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Missy Elliott is healthy, happy, and officially back.
The legendary rapper and producer announced on Instagram that Iconology would be dropping at midnight tonight, referring to it as a "collection of new songs" — her first batch since 2005's The Cookbook.
Earlier this year, Elliott began teasing the collection — which Variety reports is an EP, while fans online think it could be a fuller project — saying that she was definitely making a comeback in 2019. According to her IG, Elliott claims that her musical comeback is a tribute to a time when "music felt good and made us want to dance," as well as to her fans and God, who have allowed her to "smell the roses."
The legend is also set to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards live next Monday night (August 26) in Newark, New Jersey's Prudential Center. Richly deserved, obviously.
Staying up late for this one, and I suppose Taylor Swift's Lover will out tonight, too. Either way, tomorrow will certainly be a landmark day for women in music.
