Diesel and A-COLD-WALL* Unveil Capsule During NYFW
By Mario Abad
Sep 10, 2019In June, Diesel revealed its newest design collaborator for its ongoing Red Tag project: London-based streetwear brand A-COLD-WALL*. To celebrate the upcoming launch, both brands held an activation during NYFW yesterday with select pieces from the collection displayed in an installation format, which also served as a pre-order location for guests. Celebrities like Nicole Richie and A$AP Ferg turned up to check out the new wares, which will officially go on sale in December 4.
Samuel Ross, the founder of A-COLD-WALL* known for his conceptual designs and cerebral-industrial aesthetic, applied many of his signatures in the new capsule, which marked his first time significantly working with denim. "I'm so excited to show people the amount of time we put into denim," Ross told PAPER at a preview. "Renzo [Rosso, founder of Diesel] opened up his facility in Italy, where a lot of the finishing here is done by hand. At A-COLD-WALL* we're comfortable dying on jerseys and nylon but when it came to denim we had to go back and forth six or seven times to get the right pigmentation and dyes."

Rosso was also present at the installation, where told PAPER how impressed he is with Ross's design sensibilities at such a young age. "I've followed him for a long time," he said. "From the beginning, I've watched him and always thought, 'Here's something.' It's very nice for me to work with Sam and seeing how he interpreted our spirit while we offered our knowledge. I was very happy when he agreed to do the capsule."
The collection features jersey T-shirts, denim jeans and jackets rendered in Ross' signature dyeing techniques, avant-garde workwear, and utility-inspired nylon looks. Details including translucent denim seam taping and heavyweight denim layered with memory nylons, one of A-COLD-WALL*'s well-known design aesthetics. Additional activations ahead of the launch will take place in Tokyo and Shanghai.

This collection marks Diesel Red Tag's fourth collaboration after capsules with Shayne Oliver of Hood By Air, Glenn Martens of Y/Project, and Gosha Rubchicnky of G-Uniforma. The full collection will be sold beginning December 4 in select retailers curated by Tomorrow, a business accelerator and partner with Diesel on the RED TAG project, on diesel.com, a-cold-wall.com and in selected DIESEL flagship stores worldwide.
