Backstage at Di Petsa With Richie Shazam
By Justin Moran
Sep 16, 2024You know you’ve struck a chord when Aurora Luis (AKA Fashion Faguette) immediately shares your collection online to thirsty followers. Di Petsa successfully did so, opening London Fashion Week with a sexy collection inspired by the ancient myth of Ariadne and Theseus. Called “My Body is a Labyrinth,” Dimitra Petsa’s show aimed to explore “the darker side of human nature,” according to the Athens-based designer, in order “to confront our shadow selves.”
Models walked slowly, shielding their faces from the spotlight as if wandering a desert, in sensual looks that accentuated their bodies. Di Petsa’s signature “wet look” draping was present throughout, like fabric clung to their skin from sweat or they’d just emerged from water. Petsa considered the power of female self-pleasure, making overt nods to this with menstrual stains dripping from inner thighs and on fingers. Nipples were covered with golden sun-shaped shields and painted tan lines alluded to clothing no longer there.
“‘My Body Is a Labyrinth’ invites us to embrace the parts of ourselves that have been hidden in the shadows,” Petsa’s notes continued, “Offering both release and redemption.” Indeed, her clothes looked powerful, with dresses swathed around hips and chests in beachy sunset pastels. One model carried a blazing torch wearing only a brief suspended by a long chain necklace. Richie Shazam also made a runway appearance, her fingers covered by sand and dripping in a dramatic cream dress — "steamy sexy vibes," as she described to PAPER.
