Is Divorce the Cure for Katy Perry's Reputation?

Jun 30, 2025

While her soon-to-be ex-husband Orlando Bloom was gallivanting around Venice with Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, Katy Perry was feeding birds and smiling more than anyone has seen her do as of late.

This is not to stake some claim that women should smile more. Women smile all the time, and sometimes those women are Katy Perry. But it was an interesting move to share the seemingly pointed video after news broke that she was split from her longtime husband, whom she shares daughter Daisy with. Check it out below:

Going into the weekend, the second-biggest tabloid story after the Bezos-Sanchez nuptials was the married couple negotiating their invitations to said event in real time. Seeing as Perry is currently on the widely publicized Lifetimes world tour, Bloom took on the Bezos-Sanchez wedding solo. Out of context, the above video is another facet of the pop singer’s perpetually bubbly personality. In context, however, it reads like a pointed message to both her ex and the tabloids. Look at her, thriving on a beach with bird feed in one hand and the whole future ahead of her in the other!

According to Page Six, Bloom “was seen partying with the bride and groom during their pre-wedding festivities before leaving the Madonna dell Orto cloisters with some party guests. He enjoyed an evening boat ride through Venice after leaving the party.” Perry, elsewhere in Australia, hung out with quokkas and spent quality time with their daughter.

Of note is her pre-existing relationship to the Bezos-Sanchez dynasty, having been a vocal participant in the social experiment that saw an all-female crew of mostly celebrities briefly touch space earlier this year. That Blue Origin flight saw her career enter a period of intense freefall, as ticket sales plummeted and her public cache dwindled. Scenes from her tour of “cringe-worthy” choreography and costumes were plastered across tabloids as industry analysts speculated that maybe this was the end for her. Bloom received none of the same backlash, despite standing there at the rocket launch smiling, later attending the most loathed wedding of the century with a grin across his face.

Should there be any cure for the run of bad press she’s had of late, it’s almost poetically misogynistic that divorce might be exactly what she needs right now to curry public favor. Not hard work, or a mostly successful tour, or even videos of her holding cute animals on Instagram. No, what Hollywood loves more than most things is a woman scorned — maybe even a woman liberated. Judging by that video of her spinning circles on the beach, Perry is more liberated than most.
