Any regular reader of PAPER knows that we are in fact a Normani Stan Account. And it's photos like these that remind us why she is our favorite benevolent queen. The singer uploaded a black and white photo of her on Instagram looking sultry and retro in a leopard bodysuit and beret sitting pretty atop a zebra-print pillow.
But one quick swipe right and you'll see that she is actually recreating an iconic photo of Naomi Campbell from 1991, and the similarities are uncanny. The photo of Normani was taken by photographer Blair Caldwell, and her look was designed by John Allen along with Black Panther head tailor Kevin Mayes.
Campbell's photo, meanwhile, is a classic portrait shot by legendary photographer Herb Ritts. The supermodel is wearing a look by the late Azzedine Alaia, one of her closest friends and mentors whom she called "Papa." Campbell is gazing straight at the camera, while Normani looks away ever so slightly.
She also uploaded a second photo paying homage to Campbell from that same 1991 photoshoot. No detail is left spared, with everything from the leopard shoes to the matching gloves all resembling one of the supermodel's most memorable fashion images.
