Inside Naomi Watanabe's Sold Out Show With Thom Browne
Oct 22, 2024
Naomi Watanabe is the biggest female comedian in Japan
The funny girl first rose to fame in 2008 for her imitation of Beyoncé singing "Dreamgirls" and "Crazy in Love," becoming known for her hilarious celebrity impersonations. But she does way more than that. She also launched her own fashion line called Punyus (loosely translated to "chubby" in English), and played the role of Mabel in Fame and Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray.
Now, Watanabe has her eyes set on the US, selling out two shows at the Gramercy Theatre for a one night only, stand-up performance – her first in New York City. For the occasion, she partnered with Thom Browne, who styled her in full custom looks just for the show!
Below, Watanabe takes PAPER behind the scenes of her special night.
When I first pulled up to the theater, I was beyond thrilled to get the day started! I just couldn’t stop smiling the whole day! Like look at that smile!
