A 10-Course Meal With Jared Ellner and Uniqlo

Uniqlo is effortless. The Japanese brand, which operates over 2,500 of its vast, modern stores across more than 25 countries, has become the chosen purveyor of basics for a generation of cool kids and mega stars alike who are dressed in the brand's $50 jeans and under $200 trench jackets every fall.
The brand knows its audience: someone who’s cool but polished, and may have an affinity for minimalism, but will often surprise you in how they pull it all together. So they tapped one of fashion’s coolest stylists Jared Ellner, who's recently been dressing Sabrina Carpenter and Emma Chamberlain, to host a dinner in Los Angeles to celebrate the launch of its fall 2024 LifeWear collection and the opening of four new retail stores across California.
Ellner, who says he’s been a Uniqlo fan since high school, was asked to put his spin on the brand’s fall LifeWear collection by styling a preview for the evening at the new downtown L.A. sushi hotspot, kodō. “I really loved how this season's LifeWear collection highlighted different neutral tones,” Ellner tells PAPER. “I focused on creating outfits that could be considered unisex, using some women's pieces for the men's looks and vice versa.”
Among the new selections of styles, Head of Marketing for Uniqlo North America Nicolas Cessot joined the celebration to reveal 100-percent cashmere sweaters, an assortment of puffer vests and jackets, updates to the brand’s signature t-shirts and more.
The affair was lowkey, but nothing short of a fun, buzzy night. Joined by Emma Chamberlain, Owen Thiele and Ava Michelle, the invited group gathered for dinner at a long, bespoke wooden table inside a concrete greenhouse. Served over the course of a couple of hours was a 10-course, Omakase-style dinner, complete with a rotating sake tasting with every three courses. Hand rolls, nigiri, crab cream croquettes and more were slid in front of guests one by one while conversations slipped into your typical tableside chatter.
The evening had all the qualifications of an Ellner-certified party. He adds: “Great friends, great food, good conversation and of course a great outfit to wear.”
