4 Emerging Designers Sketch Their Fantasy Halloween Costumes
Oct 31, 2024
Halloween is here, which means the streets and your feeds will be filled with costumes, whether they're DIY looks or fully custom-designed getups. But some of the most creative ideas around dressing and transformation come from the minds of fashion designers. So in honor of all hallows eve, we asked four of fashion's up-and-coming designers to send PAPER sketches of their fantasy costume. See them all, below.
K.nglsey
K.nsgley looked to the ubiquitous jack-o'-lantern for his costume idea. "This sketch is Look 28 from the most recent show, C3: DO YOU UNDERSTAND?, which debuted on October 21, with a nod to Halloween’s most recognizable figure the Jack-O-lantern inspiring the color palette of the look, as well."
Pipenco
Romanian-British designer Lorena Pipenco designed a Dracula-themed costume inspired by the 1992 Bram Stoker film, paying homage to her Romanian roots (the very origins of Dracula) and blending the designer's whimsical nature with a touch of darkness. "The silhouette exudes a regal yet somber aura, capturing the character’s struggle between life and the haunting darkness that envelops her."
Untitled&Co.
Designer Cameron Alastaire of Untitled&Co. explored the lines of masculinity and femininity both culturally and through the lens of fashion with his spin on Mean Girls with "Mean Boys," also diving into the culture of cliques and bullying. "Mean Boys is a gender-bent Mean Girls group costume, contextualized in the archival internet fashion boy space. Here, we find unique classic fashion takes on the four iconic characters (Rickgina George, Cary Heron-Preston, Gretchen Weiderhoff and Karen Paul Smith)."
Zoe Gustavia Anna Whalen
Zoe Gustavia Anna Whalen was drawn to Grandfather Twilight. "I drew a little sketch of Grandfather Twilight in his nightcap and gown, holding a string of pearls, one of which becomes the full moon once a month when he walks to the ocean and puts a pearl up into the sky. A soft old man living in the forest, with a giant string of pearls, somehow always in his beautiful night dress."
