The Queen of Bounce is back! And this time, it's with a little help from Kesha.
Fans will remember that Big Freedia recently appeared with the PAPER digital cover star on last fall's "Raising Hell," and in the spirit of true collaboration, Kesha returned the favor with a guest spot on Freedia's purposeful party anthem, "Chasing Rainbows."
Rambunctious and commanding, the second single from the forthcoming Louder EP is classic Freedia with a visual to match. A green screen dream, the video sees the two living it up amongst clouds and rainbows as they spread a message of love and self-acceptance across the world.
Interspersed with footage of children watching an alt-right rally, Freedia and Kesha shut down the broadcast with their sky-high dance session — flanked by unicorns and leotard-donning dancers, no less. And while some may think of this as a jarring juxtaposition, as Freedia explains, it's an important visual touch that emphasizes the song's very personal message of overcoming adversity with love and positivity.
After all, as Freedia herself revealed, "Chasing Rainbows" is, at its core, a "love anthem."
"It's about how love will always conquer fear and hate," she said. "I've always been about celebrating who you are— no matter what anyone tries to tell you—and this song is meant to inspire people to chase their dreams, no matter what obstacles they face." Which is a message we can all definitely get behind, especially right now.
