Janelle Monáe Brought the House Down at 'Club Ralph'

Ralph Lauren continues to operate on the see-now-buy-now format, showing collections on the runway that's immediately available for purchase. So for Fall 2019, he put together a 1920s-inspired set in a space on Wall Street and called its "Ralph's Club," complete with table arrangements and a live jazz band. His models strutted around the venue in classic Ralph Lauren Collection evening-wear, with a big focus on women's tuxedos. The evening culminated with a performance by Janelle Monáe, who sang a series of classic jazz songs that had everyone in the audience on their feet. Here's everything else you need to know about the collection.

Tuxedo Time

The class men's uniform was the focal point for Fall 2019, taking form in cummerbund waist jackets and bow-tied bibs. It was less about making them feminine and more about women borrowing from the boys.

Very Velvet

Velvet dinner jackets and dresses were another part of the black/white-tie lineup of eveningwear. These were rendered in deep, rich tones such as crimson and violet.

Bright and Bold

Bold, primary colors like yellow, red, and royal blue were seen in strapless gowns and floor-length halter dresses. The hues were also incorporated in satin dinner jackets.

Polo Bear

The iconic polo bear also appeared on turtlenecks and sequin dresses. One was sporting a ski uniform while the other bear was appropriately dressed in black tie.

Night Prowl

The show concluded with a series of all-black ensembles. Strapless gowns with leather inserts and elbow-length gloves combined both retro and modern elements.
