Patrick Church’s Latest Collection Is a '70s, Miami-Inspired Fever Dream

For his Spring 2020 collection, New York-based British designer and artist Patrick Church is launching a campaign inspired by the experimental '70s mixed with the liveliness of Miami. Church's sexy, vibrant collection is called "Land of My Dreams," and today, ahead of New York Fashion Week, he provides PAPER with an exclusive first look.
The collection features the artist's signature graphic prints, which are splashed across briefs, T-shirts and puffer jackets. Of course, it wouldn't be a Patrick Church collection without some additional adornments. Silk robes and dresses with feather trim and a range of embellished corsets all make a welcome appearance. Church's coveted, one-of-a-kind hand-painted leather pieces — including a tongue-in-cheek jacket reading "I Am So Unhappy" — round out the line.
The models donning these energized looks — Church, West Dakota and Charles Raben — are bathed in rich, colorful fluorescent lighting.
"We [Church and his husband] play a lot of music from that era, and I always listen to music when making work," Church says. "The prints within the collection are so vibrant because I want the person that wears it to be transported to a different place. I wanted to create a dreamlike fantasy because everything at the moment feels quite dark."
The "Land of My Dreams" collection was all handmade in New York alongside artisan Nolan Kouri. It launches today and is immediately available for purchase. But act fast — the pieces are limited in quantity.
