Always Scrolling: Macy Eleni

Oct 15, 2024

Always Scrolling is PAPER's spotlight on our favorite TikTokers in fashion, beauty, lifestyle and more. Keep reading to discover this week's viral sensation: Macy Eleni.

Macy Eleni, also known as BlazedAndGlazed on TikTok, says she's on an extremely serious, hot and fabulous mission to reinvent fashion entertainment, one piece of used clothing at a time. She creates content inspired by her deep, insane love for secondhand fashion and talking all facets of the thrift world — think local spots, the Goodwill bins, consignment shops, estate sales, yard sales even maybe even piles in someone's backyard. If it’s out there, she wants to give it a second chance.

Eleni's first book, Second Chances: The Ultimate Guide to Thrifting, Sustainable Style, and Expressing Your Most Authentic Self, came out last month. "Thrifting has always meant so much to me but has not always been as widely accepted or looked at by the majority as 'cool' until more recently, and it’s been amazing to watch the narrative on used items make a shift from where it was when I was growing up," she tells PAPER. "Having the opportunity to create my dream piece of physical fashion media because of the community I have built online has rocked my world beyond, and I am forever grateful it now exists!"

PAPER chatted with Macy Eleni about her love for thrifting, trends she's into right now and her favorite secondhand store in NYC.

what i found at an UNTOUCHED thrift store!!!🤯🤯🤯

What do you love about what you do?

The thrift store was my first ever safe space, home away from home, and completely changed my life and the ways in which I viewed myself, who I was and who I could be. In high school, I would go to my local Salvation Army as much as humanly possible and roll down the racks alone, followed by therapeutic hours of dress up at my mom’s home in Ohio.

Flash forward to now, I get to take hundreds of thousands of hotties with me on my daily secondhand adventures, and that just feels so damn special. I’ve been able to start carving out my dream career, mashing together my forever love of thrifting with my cravings to connect with people and hopefully help them feel seen, happy and good about themselves. I get to wake up every day and try to do for others what the world of secondhand has always done for me, and it’s the biggest blessing.

Who is another TikToker that you love right now?

Jay Iyema is such an icon, and I need everyone to stop, shimmy and go follow her immediately! She shares the hottest vintage designer unboxings and her daily outfits that are so her, and usually all second hand, while also calling her followers “yappers,” which makes me feel so totally seen by her.

Craziest comment you’ve received on a post?

That I must be on quite literally any and every drug imaginable to have as much energy as I do in my videos or to speak the way I speak and act the way I act, but like, Hello? Have you people never been thrifting before? It’s thrilling, and I’ll never shut up about it!

@macyeleni

ALWAYS stop for an estate sale!!! 🤯🤯🤯

What’s one of your favorite looks you’ve posted?

Probably this video from the day we shot for the cover of my book. I have just never felt more me than rolling around in a pile of my own thrifted clothing, while wearing iconic vintage pieces of [Roberto] Cavalli, Plein Sud, Gucci and Joomi Joolz from my friend Emily’s shop, Voulez Vous. It was the perfect look, and I’m obsessed to this day.

What’s a trend that you love right now?

I love big ass slouchy bags and have been addicted to searching for “new” to me animal print babies on Vestiaire Collective the past few weeks.

One that you hate?

I’m not really a hater on anything anyone likes to wear or makes them feel good, but what I don’t love is fast fashion mass produced trends. Everything that is hot now, has existed in some way, shape or form in the past, so what I would love is for everyone to start scouring through what already exists, then making the trend come to life in a way that will inevitably rock better in their own already existent wardrobe.

What would you never wear?

Chevron print or ankle boots.

Favorite fashion and beauty brands right now?

Fashion brands at the top of my thrift manifest board: early 2000s Dsquared2, Versace Sport, Moschino Jeans, Moschino Cheap and Chic, Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. line from 2003. [In] beauty, I love Hanacure masks, La Roche-Posay everything and MAC lip liner.

Who’s your celebrity crush?

Cooper Koch (literally perfect angel baby), Glen Powell (come on, Scream Queens, Hidden Figures, Twisters? I can’t handle it) and Drew Barrymore (forever gorgeous stunning icon inside and out).

What’s a good book you’ve read recently?

Can I say my own? It’s definitely the book I’ve read most recently, and since I pretty much wrote it for my inner child, it’s the book I always wanted growing up but never knew could and would actually exist. It's thrifting. It's fashion. It’s feel fucking good about yourself juice to the max, and I honestly love flipping through it to remind myself it’s real!

@macyeleni

ALWAYS go to the “ugly” estate sales…

Favorite restaurant in NYC?

I’m not in NYC a ton, but when I am, literally any Greek place in Astoria.

Favorite secondhand store in NYC?

The Treasures of NYC Clubhouse double, triple duh.

What are five songs you have on repeat right now?

"Don’t Dream It’s Over" by Crowded House, "Too Shy" by Kajagoogoo, "Music" by Madonna, everything and I mean everything by my girls Coco & Clair Clair and "Girl, so confusing featuring lorde" by Charli XCX and Lorde (I fear this remix will absolutely never get old. I cannot stop Brat on repeat.)
