Hippo Campus Want You to 'Forget It'

On a steamy Saturday in Chicago, we caught up with Minnesota-born indie rock outfit Hippo Campus before they took over the Lollapalooza's IHG Stage, to a swarm of cheers and sing-a-long voices. "We're just trying to have fun with each other on stage," Nathan Stocker tells us backstage before their set. "Not in a weird way. In a unifying brotherly love sort of way," he jokes. "We're stocked on the new record, Flood, and excited to see the crowd tonight."

Speaking of Flood, Stocker said the album's energy could be described in one word: "loads." He also told PAPER, about recent gigs, including a rainy SummerFest set, that felt "magical." "Something about the Midwest crowds and the rain," he said. "Just a good summer evening. Wholesome fun." What's the song getting fans the most hype at the moment? "'Paranoid,' a really good song to throw down to," he told us, adding: "give it a try!" And what are Hippo Campus most excited to share with fans next? "The new record, Flood, comes out September 20th. I love you!"

Today, the band is sharing a teaser from Flood, a track called "Forget It" about "the little forevers of one night stands; the seemingly eternal potential of an otherwise ordinary and ephemeral night." "Do you remember falling in love? who spoke first? what were you wearing? does it play in your head like a movie, or was it all over in a single moment?" the band shared in describing the track. "However it was that your love story unfolded, and however you remember it, it’s meaningful... even if you forget the whole thing someday." They added: "We hope 'Forget It' is what gets people off their asses and onto the dancefloor."
