Anna Shoemaker Takes Us Backstage at The Roxy

Oct 23, 2024

Before performing at Los Angeles' iconic Roxy, indie-pop singer-songwriter Anna Shoemaker was nervous, excited and reliving how many times she’s cried in green room bathrooms ornamented with stickers. Today, in honor of her new album being announced (SOMEONE SHOULD STOP HER, out February 21) and her latest single, “Game of Thrones,” the singer is taking PAPER backstage to relive the lead-up to her seminal show.

“‘Game of Thrones’ is about navigating the world as a girl in your twenties trying to keep your head above water,” she says of the track, out now. “The album is a breakup album but this specific song is about my relationship with myself, my family, food and social media. If my album as a whole is meant to be listened to on a road trip — which I think it is — this song would come on as the sun is setting and you've already talked in circles on the phone to your sister and you're about to lose your mind.”

As for the show, the Brooklyn-based artist is still beaming over the experience. “The show was amazing,” she says. “I always love playing in LA. I think being from the East Coast I really glamorize Hollywood in my mind, so it was cool to be in an iconic venue like The Roxy.”

Check out behind the scenes photos and recall the night with Anna Shoemaker. below.

Why do all green room bathrooms look like this? I can't even tell you how many band stickers have seen me cry.

Heading to soundcheck.

It was Motley Crue night at The Rainbow Room nextdoor. This man was for sure matching my freak.

Getting excited for the show. I love being on tour.
