Vetements to Create a Platform for Young Designers

In the wake of Vetements' co-founder Demna Gvasalia's departure a few weeks ago, the Zurich-based brand is looking to embark on its new chapter without its high-profile designer. At a recent conference held by WWD, the brand's CEO Guram Gvasalia (Demna's brother) outlined a new program for the company that will support young designers from all over.

The plan is to launch a platform with a variety of services and programs to help young talent, including the use of the company's offices for co-working space. They'll also visit schools to speak with students about the realities of the fashion industry and offer them scholarships.

According to Gvasalia, Vetements will not own any of the talents, rather they will provide mentorship and look out for them as they start out in the business. Elaborating on the importance of a brand's team effort, he told the outlet that it's unlikely just one person is designing the brand. "No, at the big brands, they have 60 people under the designer," he said, alluding to the fact that Vetements is the product of multiple designers, not just Demna,
