Tafari Anthony Tells Off a Toxic Ex in 'Centerfold'

If 2020 is the year we cut out the toxic people in our life, then what better place is there to start than with the narcissistic lovers still hanging around? Or at least, that's the declaration that Toronto-based Tafari Anthony is making with his anthemic new track, "Centerfold."

In his own words, "Centerfold" is "the ultimate 'go fuck yourself' send off to a self centered ex-lover," and, boy, does he make it clear enough for even the most up-their-own-ass ex to understand.

Filled with brilliant one-liners like, "You think you're Beyoncé/ You not ever gonna run me," the cutting lyrics are in stark opposition to Tafari's velvet-smooth vocals — something that makes his message all the more effective. Then again, sometimes you have to take extreme measures, especially when you're dealing with someone who, as he puts it, "refuses" to listen.

"I'm a pretty calm guy, but when I get to my breaking point, it's hard to hold my tongue," as Tafari himself explained. "This song was written from sheer frustration of trying to let him down gently and realizing that he just refused to understand."

A bold, overt statement of confidence and a declaration of independence, if you've ever had a similar experience, you're definitely going to want to sing along to this one — but don't just take our word for it.

Listen to "Centerfold" for yourself, below, and get ready to block that ex-boo's number stat.
