Chromat founder Becca McCharen-Tran was one of the earliest and more vocal supporters of diversity when her New York City-based label launched 10 years ago. In the seasons since, she's been able to maintain her values while experimenting with new fabrics and technology in her ready-to-wear collections. From her signature cut-out swimsuits to high-tech corsetry, the label has amassed an unapologetically passionate fanbase who share her inclusive point of view and body-positive clothes. The show also offered a first look at the Reebok x Chromat capsule, a shoe collaboration between the sportswear giant and Chromat, with models sporting sneakers featuring Reebok's new "energy return" sole in three different colorways. Here's everything else you should know about the Spring 2020 collection.
For the 10th anniversary show, Chromat brought back their signatures and amplified them with new styles and colors. Curved, structural hoop skirts and the brand's popular cages turned up on several models.
Ages, body types, genders, race — no one was left out in this Chromat collection, even disabled people were included. Not only did the 53-look show cast a wide net of people but their outfits served to highlight their differences, not conceal them.
Colors were grouped together to highlight the different silhouettes and styles under one hue. Sets of bright red, white, pastel pink and electric blue all underscored the teamwork aspect of the brand.
Rather than just putting out regular crop tops in standard lengths, Chomat showed tops with the hem cut severely high, to the point where it almost reaches their neck. It didn't matter if it was a mesh, see-through or puffy top — as long as it showed significant exposure.
Chromat played with bold, graphic logos and words in different ways. Whether it was its name repeated on a bustier top or the word "sample size" cheekily displayed on a plus size model, Chomat put its stamp on several sporty looks this season.
