Selena Gomez Was Body Shamed Over Her Lupus Weight Gain

Selena Gomez is opening up about her experience with body shaming after her health issues caused her weight to fluctuate.

Recently, the star appeared on Raquelle Stevens' Giving Back Generation podcast to talk about how difficult it was for her to see all the judgment online while she was struggling with her health.

"I experienced [body shaming] with my weight fluctuation for the first time," she said. "I have lupus and deal with kidney issues and high blood pressure, so I deal with a lot of health issues, and for me, that's when I really started noticing more of the body-image stuff."

Explaining that her body can change quickly due to a combination of her lupus, medication, and other health issues, Gomez said her weight can sometimes even depend on the month.

Unfortunately, while dealing with her health problems, Gomez said she also began noticing that people were "attacking her" body online — something that "got to me big-time" and "really messed me up for a bit."

That said, the star ended the conversation by saying she learned about her own boundaries in terms of posting and being more private, which has helped her focus on the fact that she's "very happy with living my life and being present."

"Similar to me posting a photo and walking away; for me, that's it," Gomez concluded. "I will do a red carpet, I will do whatever; I don't need to see it, I participated, I felt wonderful and that's where the extent of it is. I don't care to expose myself to everyone and hear what they have to say."
