By Shaad D'Souza
Jan 24, 2025
It's impossible to be across all the new music out each Friday. Luckily, PAPER is here to help you out: each week, we round up 10 of our favorite new songs from artists — emerging and established — to soundtrack your life. From the surreal to the sublime, these songs cover every corner of the music world. The only criteria: they all have to absolutely rip.
Subscribe to our Sound Off Spotify playlist here and check out this week's tracks, below.
Song of the Week: Tate McRae - "Sports Car"
Tate McRae continues to be a pitch-perfect revivalist when it comes to dredging up the slinky, ultra-rhythmic sounds of the early-2000s. Her new single "Sports car" has it all: darkly-toned synths, a whispered hook, a beat that would be perfect to choreograph a dance to. The whole song stays fairly low-key throughout its runtime, but it still manages to end up feeling like a banger, in part thanks to a post-chorus section towards the song's end that turns the song's simmer up to a full boil.
Sexyy Red, Bruno Mars - "Fat Juicy & Wet"
Bruno Mars is seemingly on a mission to collaborate with every female star the 21st century has to offer. His latest duet partner is none other than Sexyy Red, and as it turns out, the pair are a match made in heaven.
Central Cee, Lil Durk - "Truth In The Lies"
Central Cee’s long-awaited Can’t Rush Greatness is here, and it features plenty of contemplative moments like this – an Afrobeats-tinged collaboration with Lil Durk that lets Cee flex his melodic rap skills.
Fka twigs, North West - "Childlike Things"
An unexpected collaboration provides Twigs’ Eusexua with its surprising high-point – a piano-led club track that’s euphoric and a little ridiculous.
Shygirl, Club Shy, Isabella Lovestory, PinkPantheres - "True Religion"
Shades of dancehall and baile funk intermingle on this single from Club Shy: Room 2, which lets three of underground pop’s leading ladies join forces without dimming their light.
Lord Huron, Kristen Stewart - "Who Laughs Last"
Another unexpected collaboration – a big-tent post-punk track aided by crunchy spoken word from Kristen Stewart. It’s weird, and it works.
Kacy Hill, 6LACK - "Time's Up"
Kacy Hill continues to build out her warm, organic R&B world with this 6LACK collaboration that feels like it sprung from some creek bank, as opposed to an LA studio.
Sam Fender - "Arm's Length"
It’s surprising that it’s taken this long for Sam Fender to collaborate with The War On Drugs’ Adam Granduciel, but anyway – “Arm’s Length” takes Granduciel’s proclivity for huge heartland rock theatrics and pairs it with Fender’s slick, sweet voice.
Omar+, piri - "Body Language"
Piri (formerly of “and Tommy” fame) plays foil to club-R&B crooner Omar+ on this new collab, and her piquant voice pairs nicely with his smooth timbre.
SAILORR, Summer Walker - "Pookie's Requiem"
Sailorr listened to the fans: She made her viral hit “Pookie’s Requiem” longer, this time with the help of Summer Walker. Walker feels like a natural progenitor to Sailorr, and her co-sign makes the wounded lyrics of the track sting even more.
