Work Takes Over in 'Homo Laboriosus'
Art direction by Dmitry Slovohotov / Photography by Marko Suvić
Jan 13, 2025
Corporatocracy has consumed our world. As a result, humans have transformed into "Homo Laboriosus" ("The Working Man"), which has all been imagined in an editorial titled the same name as this humanoid.
Dreamt up by photographer Marko Suvić, this bodies of this new species melds with office attire, supplies and furniture, blurring the line between human and tool. Skin-like uniforms of collared shirts and ties, as well as objects like Post-it notes and swivel chairs, extend the bodies, creating a world of surrealism and body horror.
"The visual direction of this shoot was influenced by works such as David Cronenberg's film eXistenZ, Terry Gilliam's Brazil and Japanese advertising, particularly the works of Yuni Yoshida, where humor, irony, and cultural references are prominently used," Suvić tells PAPER.
Below, see the next evolution of humankind: "Homo Laboriosus."
