Lorde, our gloriously dark princess of all things off-kilter, has done a magical thing, and transformed a soaring pop classic into something spooky and slowed-down (naturally).
During the Ally Coalition Talent Show at New York's Town Hall this week, the 21-year-old New Zealander covered "Run Away With Me" off Carly Rae Jepsen's 2015 epic E•MO•TION, and the result was 2,000% Lorde.
She sang alongside Jack Antonoff, who co-produced much of her last album Melodrama, and gave Jepsen's original an acoustic piano twist. Lorde moved through the lyrics with her signature breathy vocals, and added a bit of witchy, twitchy choreo — notice how she jitters uncontrollably when singing the lyrics, "Run away with me." A spell? A curse?
If you're anything like us, and begin wildly weeping upon hearing the saxophone in Jepsen's E•MO•TION opener, we'll warn you before watching that the floodgates will undoubtedly open. Enjoy, below, and weep forever.
