Designers Beckett Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk incorporated a variety of decade references for their crystal embellished, jewelry-filled Spring 2020 collection for AREA. From the '50s and '60s couture shapes of Cristobal Balenciaga and Christian Dior to '80s-inspired name-plate necklaces of the word AREA in different languages, this season utilized various multicultural elements and sculptural techniques. Cage Dresses
Victorian cage constructions took form in gilded, armor-like dresses that enveloped the body. The sculptural chain dresses utilized ancient arabesque metal work while maintaining curves and the enhancing the female form.
Couture Shapes
Voluminous shapes and cocoon-like dresses recall elements of '50s and '60s couture. Big, puffy sleeves and giant bow detailing heighten the collection's retro glamour mood.
Face Jewels
The crystal chain motifs in the ready-to-wear were applied to jewelry as well, which adorned the face in opulent patterns. From dripping, fringe-like effects to intricate studded embellishments, no detail was left spared.
Smart Suiting
Streamlined suits and sharp tailoring served as a blank canvas to the opulent crystal chains and cage detailing. The muted, single-breasted numbers came with a strong shoulder and slim cut.
Tubular Dressing
Some of the more unexpected yet playful pieces included tube tops and dresses with tubular flourishes with a sprouting effect. Even the tips of the tubes came embellished with the crystal studs.
