It's Called Fashion!: Christine Quinn Ties the Knot in Diesel

BY Andrew Nguyen | Jul 25, 2024

"It's Called Fashion" is PAPER's monthly roundup of the newest arrivals, capsules, collaborations and campaigns. Keep scrolling to see July's biggest fashion news.

For its Fall 2024 campaign, "Til D do us part," Diesel put a silly and sexy twist on a traditional wedding from prep to the ceremony and afterparty, with Nick Waplington in the role of wedding photographer. It's the latest in the ongoing visual collaboration between creative director Glenn Martens and art director Christopher Simmonds, who focused on denim this season.

The bride is played by author, model, actress and infamous former star of Netflix’s Selling Sunset Christine Quinn. For her Diesel wedding, she wears a stone-washed, blue denim gown with rosettes around the neckline and shoulders. Naturally, the bride mandated a strict dress code: everyone must wear head-to-toe Diesel denim from the Fall 2024 collection.

Hugo Joins Forces With Les Benjamins

For Fall 2024, Hugo collaborated with Istanbul-based streetwear label Les Benjamins on a collection that explores "interculturality," celebrating shared histories, cultural dialogues and the unifying power of creativity and storytelling. Founded in 2011 by designer and photographer Bünyamin Aydin, Les Benjamins blended Turkish heritage with contemporary culture and Hugo's tailoring for the capsule that's comprised of 18 men's, women's and gender neutral pieces. Throughout the collection, recurring iconography symbolizes love, unity and trust. A sketched swan emblem represents unity between Turkey and Germany, while embroidered roses signify the love that connects families and partners, despite the distances that may separate them. There's also a double-key insignia, acknowledging the strength of the "Key Kids," who were the children of Gastarbeiter (foreign or migrant workers) who wore their home keys around their necks.

The accompanying campaign explores the experience of growing up Turkish in Germany. Captured in Berlin by Furkan Cetin and Nina Raasch, featuring a series of portraits and videos that highlight different personal narratives from the cast: rapper Apsilon, models Tijen Ekici, Kisha Hahn and Simo Baakoun, performing artist Azama Bashir and writer and creative Arinc Cemal.

"This collaboration with Hugo pays homage to my Gastarbeiter grandparents, whose journey from Turkey to Germany in the 1960s shaped my identity, and whose courage formed who I am today," Aydin, said in a press release. "Being at peace with my identity as a proud German-Turk without having to choose one side is incredibly fulfilling, and I hope this capsule will inspire others to embrace their duality and be true to themselves."

Available now at hugo.com.

They also provide research grants for life-saving metastatic breast cancer research. “Hamptons Breast Fest showcases what Cancer Culture does best: using art to highlight the faces and stories of breast cancer patients, all for the greater goal of building a local Hamptons community of survivors and thrivers and raising money to continue our efforts, Fairchild said in a press release. Burns added, “Hamptons Breast Fest features a mashup of breast cancer patients, world renowned artists and fashion week photography. As artists and survivors, Beth and I understand how the arts play a transformational role in healing. Art heals and empowers not only through artistic expression but lends perspective and serves as a reflection for and of the patient.”
