City Girls' JT Is Finally Free, so She Released a New Song

by Jenny Zheng

Coupled with the surprise announcement of JT's prison release, the City Girls dropped a celebratory new song, "JT First Day Out." Literally, JT recorded the freestyle the first day she got out. As a result, #JTFree is trending, as she raps on the track, JT "ain't wait a day."

Back in 2018, JT was arrested for credit fraud charges and as she raps, she "went in the same day Drake dropped 'In My Feelings,'" a song that City Girls featured on and one that further boosted the duo's popularity. Her arrest was bemoaned by City Girls' fans as ill-timed and unfortunate since the duo picked up good momentum with iconic viral anthems like "Act Up" and "Twerk."

But now that JT is free, the City Girls are reunited and back in full force. Yung Miami has done an admirable job of keeping City Girls active, collaborating with Megan Thee Stallion and Quavo on "Pastor" and Moneybagg Yo on "4 da Movement." JT acknowledges so in "First Day Out," rapping "Yung Miami held me down/ that's a bitch ace," and later in the song calling Yung Miami the "other half of her."

"First Day Out" is not only a touching proclamation of sisterhood between JT and Yung Miami, it also details JT's experience with the prison system while City Girls grew more successful. And of course, she doesn't forget to address the haters who, "counted [her] out" and emphatically raps, "Now I'm back, I got 'em shocked/ These bitches droppin' they mouth."

JT ends the songs by addressing the haters too, disparaging the rumors that she was in a relationship with a correctional officer, point blank, saying, "Oh, and one more thing before I go/ How y'all gon say a made bitch was pregnant from a C.O.?/ I don't fuck with cops or blockers, you bitches slow."

The City Girls are back doing what they do best, and judging from "First Day Out," their future looks bright. Stream the song, below.
