NARS Wants You to Put a Dick to Your Lips
By Jeena Sharma
Aug 13, 2019NARS isn't known to shy away from provocative marketing tactics. Beauty fans will remember the brand's iconic blushes named "Orgasm," "G Spot" and "Deep Throat." So, it came as little surprise when the French cosmetics giant used another sexual innuendo to promote its new drop.
In a recently released campaign video for its new "Morocco Lipstick," the lipstick appears to be shaped like a penis, and slowly morphs into the standard lipstick form. The video is cheekily captioned: "When the nudes keep you up all night."
Okay, a bold marketing schtick, but not totally unexpected. Yet, while most of the brand's devoted customers were looking forward to actually trying on the product, some were left astonished and even offended.
"Wow. Remind me NOT to purchase anything NARS sells," one user wrote on Twitter. "This is too far. Teenage girls make most makeup purchases. I wouldn't want my kid thinking this ad was cool."
"I just had a few words with a man defending my use of lipstick and now this. Who the hell would find this ad appealing and rush out to buy it. I thought Nars was classier than this," another added.
Then there were those who came to the brand's defense by stating the obvious. "NARS lipsticks be named Orgasm, Sexual Healing, Pussy Poppin', etc...They know what the fuck they're doing!" one user said.
"Honestly in love with this color and now I must have it to soften my boner," joked Chrissy Teigen.
