Many mysteries surround the relationship between Rihanna and Drake. The two were first photographed together back in 2009, at the genesis of Drake's career, when Rihanna was already a chart superstar reeling from an infamously abusive relationship with Chris Brown. They remained friends over the next few years, and were romantically linked once more in 2016, even kissing onstage at the VMAs. This era appeared to end badly. Drake has since gone on tour with Chris Brown, and in a 2018 Vogue interview Rihanna indicated she and Toronto's most famous export were no longer on speaking terms.
Sad! But something must have changed, because Rihanna was spotted partying with Drake during his impromptu birthday celebration at Los Angeles nightclub Poppy on Monday. Drake rented out the whole venue, and E! Newsreports that guests popped bottles and ate McDonald's together. Everyone was "smiling and laughing," and when Drake and Rihanna came face to face it seemed like "a very pleasant interaction."
Other birthday party attendees included Drake's usual OVO crew, as well as Love & Hip Hop Hollywood star Lyrica Anderson, who was posting furiously to Instagram Stories. Balthazar Getty was DJing, apparently? The drinks of choice were Dom Perignon, Don Julio 1942, and Hennessy.
You can trust that Rihanna planned the perfect outfit for her ex-boyfriend's birthday: a low-key sweater paired with crystal-embedded leggings and stiletto heels. A casual flex. According to her latest Vogue cover story, the musician and fashion designer has been dating Saudi billionaire Hassan Jameel since 2017.
Still no news on that damn album.
