Wow. Just saw the tail end of the Kennedy Center Honors on TV. Hosted by Caroline Kennedy and recorded before a live audience in early December, the show honored Tony Bennett, Suzanne Farrell, Julie Harris and Robert Redford. But the evening peaked with the tribute to Tina Turner, seated between Redford on her right and Laura and George Bush on her left. Introduced with short documentary narrated by Oprah Winfrey the show took off with Melissa Etheridge doing a kick ass version of "River Deep and Mountain High" to the obvious joy of Tina but little from the Bushes who finally became aroused with the introduction of Beyonce. If nothing else, this proves the Bushes are indeed human for Beyonce was all of that as she strutted through "Proud Mary" in total hommage to Tina, complete with signature hair tosses and ass shakes per minute. The only thing that could possibly top this would be Rev. Al Green doing "I'm So In Love With You" backed by a gospel choir, which is what closed the show.
