One of Italian maestro of horror Dario Argento's most disturbing films: The Stendhal Syndrome (1996) is finally getting the DVD release it richly deserves from: (www.blue-underground.com) on September 25th. Asia Argento (Dario's daughter) gives a mesmerizing, fierce, performance as police detective Anna Manni on the trail of a terrifying serial killer (Thomas Kretschmann). She also suffers from the "Stendhal Syndrome" which literally causes her to pass out and suffer temporarily amnesia at the sight of certain works of art. There are scenes of surreal beauty and unbelievable cruelty, and the only DVD release available always looked crummy. This two-disc set has extras with director Argento and the film is from the original Italian 35mm interpositive.
