The Cobra Snake and Matt Goldman Share Their Favorite L.A. Bike Routes

Do you dress differently when you know you'll be riding your bike somewhere? Do you take any extra steps to freshen up before work or going out somewhere after you've ridden your bike?

The most important step I take before I get ready to ride my bike is to make sure all of my clothing is tight and fitted to my body so that everyone can see my muscles flexing while I'm riding, and also to prevent the snags and tears that happen when loose bits of clothing get clogged in my bike's parts. Depending on how long the ride was, extra steps to get ready can include everything from a little hand sanitizer to a shower, sauna and twenty dollar foot massage.

What do you look for in clothing when you're bike riding?

I look for clothing that is stylish, fits well, and doesn't have anything dangling down like a chain wallet or a jacket covered in buckles or something. I also pay special attention to the fit in the "seat" or "crotch" of the pants or shorts I'm wearing for riding.

Are there certain pieces or tricks to staying fashion-forward but comfortable when biking in the city?

Avoid flowing garments, overly long hair, yo-yos, and large luggage. Go for fitted jeans, tennis shoes, cropped jackets and fingerless gloves instead.

What do you love about riding your bike in the city?

I've always loved riding my bike because it's a great way to stay fit and get some exercise when you're going out or even just running errands. Long bike rides through the city are a fantastic way to explore, and unlike driving in a car you can actually stop to meet people or take their picture on the way.

Biking is obviously a great way to cut back on your carbon footprint. Do you pay similar attention to the sustainability or eco-friendliness of your clothing?

I tend to wear a lot of vintage, which is really the most eco-friendly clothing you can wear. There's plenty of good clothing out there that's already been made, and I try to wear a lot of it and not buy too much new stuff apart from the really special pieces.

How did you pick out your look from H&M x Brick Lane Bikes collection?

I just tried to look my best and pick out something that really captured the spirit of the Bicycle.

Do you dress differently when you know you'll be riding your bike somewhere? Do you take any extra steps to freshen up before work or going out somewhere after you've ridden your bike?

Generally I take some precautions to prepare temperature-wise. I dress warmer when it's cold or lighter when it's hot if I'm taking the bike. For me, riding is relegated to when I'm not in a rush so I'm never arriving tired or sweaty and a hand-washing is all that's necessary upon arrival.

What do you look for in clothing when you're bike riding?

I look for convertible clothing that's easy to fit in bags so adjusting to the weather is fast and easy.

Are there certain pieces or tricks to staying fashion-forward but comfortable when biking in the city?

Wearing breathable but form-fitting clothing is key and staying away from the exercise gear allows for versatility upon arrival anywhere.

What do you love about riding your bike in the city?

I love being more bonded with my environment. Driving in a car is a very isolating experience and although I love being able to listen to music, being on a bike allows me to smell and hear the city. It enforces more creative interaction with my environment and is a great way to see the same paths from such a different perspective -- old roads can be new again. Also, it's easier to stop and impulsively see or do more on a whim.

Well being so busy, I'm really bad at getting to the store to buy myself anything these days -- but I don't think that's quite what you mean, is it...

How did you pick out your look from H&M x Brick Lane Bikes collection?

I chose looks that were in line with my personal style but functionally designed for bike riding so I can still feel like myself but also have a spot to put my water bottle.
