The Beastie Boys' "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (to Party!)" Is Our Music Video of the Day

Gary Pini

After years of being ignored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Beastie Boys are finally being recognized for their groundbreaking contribution to rap music. WRONG!  We admit that the rules for eligibility are a little vague but here's the facts: You are eligible 25 years after the release of your first record (not necessarily an album) and in 2007 the Beastie Boys were nominated but not inducted because their 12" EP "Pollywog Stew" was released in 1982. It was not, however, a rap record. The Rick Rubin produced "Rock Hard" 12" on Def Jam came out in 1985, so we predict they will be inducted this year for what the Hall of Fame calls their "influence and significance" in rap music. Anyway, it's oldie-but-goodie day and we've chosen "Fight For Your Right to Party," directed by Adam Dubin and Rick Menello and released in 1986.  Enjoy the weekend.
