Sometimes going back to school is worth it. Especially when it's gin class! Last month at a rock star bartender-filled gin symposium at the W Hotel Union Square I got a taste of the brand new Beefeater Summer Edition. Master distiller Desmond Payne, one of the most charming men on the planet, was in town from London to introduce it to America. He basically brought it in a jug since it hadn't been bottled yet and revealed its composition of Beefeater's traditional botanicals plus hints of elderflower, black currant and hibiscus flower. It's soft, citrusy and light, heavenly for summer. The bottle design has just been unveiled, displaying pretty flowers and a dapper fellow playing croquet. Bring on the gin and tonics! Look for Summer Edition in bars and liquor stores by June ($21.99 for 750ml).
