Director Danny Boyle pumped new blood into the zombie epic with 28 Days Later... and now he's kick-starting another genre with the visually arresting, supremely suspenseful sci-fi thriller Sunshine. In the film, set in the year 2057, the sun is dying out and the earth is blanketed with cold. The crew of the spaceship Icarus II sets off into space to detonate a bomb on the surface of the sun in the hopes of reigniting its light source, but as they get closer they find the remnants of an earlier space mission. They stop to investigate, with terrifying results. Sunshine, which stars Cillian Murphy, Rose Byrne, Chris Evans and Michelle Yeoh, does share similarities with cult favorites like Event Horizon and Mission to Mars, but Boyle succeeds in giving Sunshine its own dynamic flash and unique visual style.
