For over 20 years, photographer and longtime PAPER contributor Henny Garfunkel has been decamping to Park City, Utah to shoot the stars at the Sundance Film Festival. Her striking portraits often capture big name actors and directors and festival newcomers during unguarded moments and there's a reason she keeps coming back: celebs love her. "I approach celebrities in the same way I may approach someone I have just met (who is not a celebrity): talking with people, talking about different things and having them tell me about their film," Garfunkel tells Sundance.TV about her laid-back approach when shooting stars and putting them at ease. "Once [the shoot] gets going, they get a sense that this is not like going to the dentist and I'm not there to torture them. I'm there to make them look good."
A digital retrospective of her portraits from her first ten years at the fest is currently up on Sundance.TV where you can see shots of painfully young Ryan Reynolds, Reese Witherspoon, Michelle Williams, Kerry Washington and other A-listers.
