SebastiAn's "Embody" Is Our Music Video of the Day

Gary Pini

We're a little late with this, but "Embody" by SebastiAn is one very clever video. It was made by Bertrand Lagros de Langeron (a/k/a So Me), the art director for Ed Banger records who almost single-handedly created the label's graphic look and style. (He has also produced clips for everybody from Kanye to Justice to MGMT). At first glance the narrative here seems pretty straight-forward, but the viewer is left with several unanswered questions:  Who, for example, is the white couple and what is their relationship to the boy? The YouTube commenter "spacecadet1" may have hit the nail on the head with the observation that the boy is merely a "metaphorical representation of the background music that people listen to in different social situations." We are also reminded of Ralph Ellison's classic novel Invisible Man in which the main character is "invisible" because he is seen only as a stereotype. The single is out now and SebastiAn's debut album, Total, is coming at the end of May.
