I was so so sad to hear yesterday that the holding company of Rochas will be shutting the doors of this amazing fashion house. Rochas is amazing only after being put on the map in the past few years by designer Olivier Theyskens whose unique melancholic ethereal aesthetic seduced the fashion world. Theyskens has proven himself to be one of the best designers in the world these days although it is no surprise that a company like Procter and Gambel (who owned the house) was ill suited for the job. In its defense P+G inherited Rochas when they purchased the Wella portfolio which included mostly fragrance and beauty lines like Anna Sui and Gucci. This was the only fashion company included and they just didn't have the desire or know how to tackle the fashion business. Hopefully someone (perhaps the PUIG brands?) will snatch Rochas up although P+G is making it difficult because they refuse to release the Rochas fragrance with the fashion collection. Otherwise Theyskens is a man without a collection so someone needs to grab him fast because he is really really great.
