Over Independence Day weekend, the rapper Rick Ross hosted a 3-day party at his lavish estate in Atlanta for Maybach Music Group, his imprint whose roster includes Meek Mill, Wale, Omarion, Gunplay, and Rockie Fresh. "MMG Weekend," as it's called, seems like an appropriate way to celebrate America and its capitalist possibilities: the MMG collective album series is called "Self-Made" (Volume 4 is expected to drop in the fall), and Maybach Estates is their temple of conspicuous consumption to prove it.

The invite-only weekend's slate of activities featured a game night with the rappers in Rozay's basement (which boasts an indoor pool, arcade, cinema, bar, bowling alley, basketball court, and large cartoon cutouts of the Boss's face), a night turning up with the crew at club Mansion, a listening session, and a bananas olympic-sized pool party. All of the accoutrements from the hip-hop playbook were in place: copious offerings of champagne paired with junk food, bling, blunts, sports cars, scantily clad women.

The unannounced highlight was the presence of Nicki Minaj, who is dating Meek Mill. I nearly choked on the delectable crab mac n' cheese I had been shoving into my face when I spotted her a few feet away, waiting for a drink at the bar. I took a candid photo; she then struck up a conversation with me about the photo, which somehow (this part is kind of a blur) led to a one-on-one shoot with her in the indoor pool (her idea!), while her bodyguard kept everyone else out. She was exceedingly polite, and seemed to be trying to keep a low profile to let Meek and the MMG guys have their moment. The other highlight was the rapper Gunplay, because he sports a massive uni-dread and has an amusing signature move in which he raises it into their air and flashes it, as if it were a medallion on a chain.

This must all sound like a ridiculous fantasy (it definitely felt that way), but here is lively and detailed photographic evidence of the entire affair. And just to make sure you make it all the way through the pics, we saved the top photos of Rick Ross being a boss in the pool 'til the very end. Click through, below.
