Ready, Set, Snowbomb

Leslie Pariseau

Now that SXSW stages have broken down and the drunken taco eaters have all gone home, it's time to think snow and schnitzel 'cuz it's Snowbombing season. Imagine a sea of lederhosen, igloos, Alpine snow bunnies, more blonde Northern Europeans than you can shake a ski pole at. And DJs. Lots and lots of DJs. The twelfth year of this week-long Austrian music fest will be, no doubt, one hell of a party, but what's ingenious about Snowbombing's fuzzy, electronic vibe is the Olympic style commencement -- a big European Road Trip to the mountains of Mayhrhofen, Minus the torch, and plus some of the coolest fucking people with whom you'd ever want to road trip (Mr. Motivator! The Cuban Brothers!) the Volvo-sponsored trek starts tomororw in London and Amsterdam as a two-day alternative to airport mayhem. Drivers caravan toward Frankfurt for a pit stop evening of music, sausages and probably the most entertaining traffic jam in Europe. As the Snowbombing safari winds into Mayhrhofen, drivers are greeted with a mob of aforementioned snow bunnies/shiny Scandies ready to carry them off to fluffy ski runs, forest parties and DJ sets as far as the ear can hear. Ready...set...Snowbomb.
