Paco Rabanne Celebrates the Beauty of Ceremony

Story by Kristen Bateman / Photography by Sonny Vandevelde

For fall 2019, Julien Dossena explored the idea and aesthetics of clothing as they relate to pageantry, ceremony and performance. That theme ran the gamut from military-inspired blazers to floor-length gowns in metallic patterns. The line has quickly become a new favorite in the industry, especially with the dynamic and unquestionably cool styling by Marie-Amelie Sauve. Here's everything else you need to know about the collection.

Feminine Florals

Floral prints, a trend that is becoming more and more prevalent with each collection at Paris Fashion Week, were reimagined at Paco Rabanne. Shown in the form of flowy tunic dress hybrids that opened at the waist to reveal contrasting prints, slip dresses, blouses and blazers, they hit all the right marks.

Chain Mail Gang

Chain mail was last season's biggest hit, but still, the label successfully worked it into its signature bags, dresses and revealing skirts. Stunning patterns were created with different variations of metal on both garments and bags.

Disco Days

Glamour and the aesthetics of celebration reached a peak when sequined pants, silky slip dresses and slinky silver gowns that looked liquefied as they moved paraded down the runway. All that was shiny and sparkly was there, but it was done in a sophisticated way.

Animal Prints

Zebra striped button down dresses and fluted skirts, leopard duster jackets and one particularly glam sequined strapless animal print gown styled over a turtleneck in a contrasting print: these are a few of Julien Dossena's favorite things.

Military Revamp

The military look got a total revamp. Embellished militant jackets, buttons and other details verged on band jackets, but were extremely wearable — just the kind of thing you could pair with a pair of worn-in jeans.
