Opposites Attract: MAC and Gareth Pugh Celebrate Their Color Collection at the New Museum

When we were invited to MAC cosmetics and Gareth Pugh's party for their upcoming super-secret color collection debuting this winter, we really hoped to get a peek at what's to come. Alas, mum was the word last night, and the only pretty little things that didn't show up at the party, held at the glass walled Sky Room at New Museum with guests including Genevieve Jones, Patrick McDonald, and Katie Gallagher, were any of Pugh's make-up! (Though his boyfriend had a done-up face, framed by fuchsia hair) We talked with the British designer, famed for his severe, dramatic collections, hoping to get some info on what to expect for the collection. When asked how much of a presence his design work has in the make-up, Pugh said, "Its very me. We were working with same team I work with for my shows so it has very much the feeling of one of my shows, it's kind of an extension of that." And how does the designer himself sum that feeling up? "What I do is always very much about opposites, black or white, masculine or feminine. Using that idea of opposites and transferring it into make-up, something that has tension between it or friction, like two magnets; if you try to push them together they kind of fight against each other and also complement each other." The high drama of MAC and Pugh's designs are slated to be a match made in heaven.
