As I climb out of my flu hole and start to feel human again, I realize that I missed the shop opening of one of my favorite designers, Martin Margiela. The reason I'm sad I missed this is because I've been complaining that Margiela hasn't opened a shop in the US for many years now and when he finally does it, I am on the left coast fighting off a big winter flu. In typical Margiela Garbo style, the shop opened completely quietly with only a sweet invitation going out to friends. The invitation was conceptual (of course!). The Margiela folks took one of their favorite New York City icons, the Greek paper coffee cup (as in "Its a Pleasure to serve you"), and printed it in white ink on white cardboard cup with the info stuck inside the cup on a napkin. There will be a couple of other new things opening in the new year...Todd Oldham will finally be opening the doors to his long awaited LA-Z_BOY shop in Soho. Our friend Murray Moss will be opening a new hangout joint this January....a wine bar and snack-a-rie. Knowing Murray's taste (and his amazing taste in wine), we're positive that this place will be fab. It's on Houston Street right next door to his Moss Gallery. (Why not!) We can't wait to sit down and have a taste!
