MRS. HENDERSON PRESENTS
Irresistibly entertaining true story about a rich, bored London widow in 1937 named Laura Henderson (Judi Dench) who buys a Soho theater as a lark, hires a manager named Vivian Van Damm (Bob Hoskins) and presents nonstop theatrical entertainment. Then, by charming her old friend Lord Cromer (a wonderfully wry Christopher Guest), she proceeds to present girls nude onstage for the first time as a tableau vivant. Wittily directed by Stephen Frears, with inspired costumes by Sandy Powell, the film's real fun is in the constant sparring between Dench and Hoskins. And the nudity, too -- even Bob Hoskins doffs his knickers in one scene. So if you've always yearned to see Bob Hoskins's balls, this is the movie for you!
