Miguel has released a demo of a heartbreaking and equally empowering new song called "How Many," an anthem of solidarity for the Black Lives Matter movement.

The song comes in the wake of the most recent police executions of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, as well as the deadly shooting that occurred last night in Dallas, during a peaceful #BlackLivesMatter protest.

As he indicates on his SoundCloud, the song was written between "4 am and 7 am" in his London hotel room.

"How many heartbeats turned into flatlines?" Miguel laments, over a sparse, goosebumps-inducing guitar.

Miguel says he will update the song each week until it's finished.
