M.I.A. Celebrates the Release of Matangi With a Party In Bushwick

There's probably no combination of places more incongruous in New York City than "Soho House" and "Bushwick" but those were the vibes last night at a party celebrating the release of M.I.A.'s newest album, Matangi. Held inside a massive warehouse-cum-photo studio off of the Jefferson stop, the party, which was a part of SPIN and Soho House's "Satellite Nights" concert series, featured a live performance by Maya Arulpragasam herself, art installatiosn by Jose Carlos Casado, and lots and lots of very, very attractive people. Besides all of the beautiful nobodies, we saw the Beastie Boys' Mike D., Heems, Le1f and a million other people who we vaguely recognized but probably didn't actually know. M.I.A. played crowd favorites like "Paper Planes" and "Bad Girls" while some ginger guys (á la her video for "Born Free") provided onstage antics alongside back-up dancers wearing outfits from the singer's Versus Versace collection. Photos from the night by Paper's Rebecca Smeyne, below.
