Zayn Maliik opened up about his mental health struggles this weekend in a candid instagram note addressed to fans.

In a post on Saturday, Malik revealed that though he was scheduled to perform this London's Capital Summertime Ball appearance this weekend, his anxiety got in the way and he couldn't bring himself to perform. His anxiety, he wrote, "got the better" of him.

My anxiety that has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me... With the magnitude of the event, I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career.

Discussing his anxiety-- something many people deal with but aren't quick to divulge-- is a rare display of vulnerability for Malik, who is known to be private about his personal life.

Hopefully Malik's act of bravery can give his fans and other people the space to be themselves and to talk more openly about mental health issues effecting young men and women.
