Matthew Adams Dolan's New American Folktale

Story by Mario Abad / Photography by Hatnim Lee

An intimate restaurant setting was the location for Matthew Adams Dolan's Spring 2020 show, where cups of French Fries from were placed in each table for hungry guests at The Standard Grill in New York City's Meatpacking District. After skipping the runway last season, Adams Dolan continued his exploration of Americana and its evolution, showing a variety of classic American staples (denim, shirting, sports jackets) and interpreting them with both sharp and relaxed design techniques. Here's everything else you need to know about the collection.

Killer Denim

Adams Dolan's signature use of denim was applied in just a handful of pieces in the 29-look collection. But he did what does best: understated yet refined blue denim separates with a twist.

Modern Tailoring

The collection's standout piece was a black double-breasted blazer with sloped sleeves that felt ultra modern. Elongated vests and roomy jackets also stole the show.

Crisp Shirting

Oversized shirts with pinstriped detailing and sharp collars were among the more fashion forward pieces on show. Rihanna would definitely rock a pair on a night out.

Between the Lines

Recurring graphic stripes in bold sizes were the main prints on the runway, seen on jackets with frayed edges and boxy hoodies.

Loose Linens

Lightweight linens were roomy and loose, seen on flowy men's pants and pleated women's dresses.
