Marni Plays a Game of Duality

Piercings, slashed fabrics, connected engagement rings — all of these played a role in Marni's latest collection. For fall 2019, creative director Francesco Risso aptly titled the show "NEUROEROTIK - fantaerotic escape game." The show notes went into great detail describing a game of "free body and free thoughts" ending with "the most frivolous of them all wins." Put simply, it was imaginative and full of dualities. Here's everything else you need to know about the show.

Chain Game

The defining accessory that held everything together was tough chains in silver and gold. These were worn around the waist, or as chokers and longer necklaces dangling the aforementioned engagement rings and silver spheres.

Perfect Pleats

Pleats within the collection added an extra element of texture. They peeked out of skirts and dresses in unexpected silhouettes and also came in more traditional cuts on the bottom of dresses.

New Patchwork

As an extension of the prairie dressing trend, patchwork has been trending on the fall runways. Marni reinvented it by stringing different panels of silk together with silver piercings.

Black and White and Red All Over

With the exception of a few splices of orange, pink and gray, the color palette predominantly came in black, white and red. For a label like Marni, which is known for its penchant for color, it felt like a slightly different different but still retained its classic quirky aesthetic.

Workwear Revamp

Toward the beginning of the collection, Risso sent our workwear pieces with a twist. Wool suiting and white shirting material was reinvented.
