For each of our four seasons, there's one item which reigns supreme in every New Yorker's closet. Denim is a strong guess, but jackets are the right one. From lightweight bombers for a cool summer's night to fur lined parkas for a cold winters day, owning a minimum of four is a must for the style (and health) conscious Manhattanite. And yet... finding a piece which offers fashion, function and a friendly price-point can be as elusive as a cab in rush hour traffic. Thus, historically the struggle has been between aspiring for a multi-thousand dollar cinched waist couture piece or settling for a thirty dollar Forever 21 knockoff tribute. Predictably, Forever 21 always won. Until now. Nonoo Lyons, a chic label launched by friends Misha Nonoo and Deborah Lyons, offers what's been missing: stylish, sexy, reasonably priced outerwear for all seasons. Bahrain-born Nonoo and London-raised Lyons struck up a friendship in New York, and over drinks at the Bowery Hotel last Fall dreamed up a line which offered jackets exclusively. Over the next few months the duo worked tirelessly to source luxurious fabrics, hire seasoned pattern makers, and set up shop in the heart of Brooklyn where their handcrafted coats are created. The result is their buzzed-about debut collection of eight tailored pieces (the Bovary blazer is my favorite). From Intermix to Vogue, retailers and reporters alike are enthralled with the label which provides structured silhouettes, vibrant colors and luxurious details. Get a first hand look for yourself at the first ever Nonoo Lyons pop-up store which debuts this week at 51 Wooster Street (at the corner of Broome).
