You've heard this one before: An individual becomes uber-famous for a talent, and soon his or her family wants in on the action, often times trying to find fame by working in the exact same industry as their celeb relative (see Aaron Carter following in the steps of Backstreet brother Nick). But Lottie Tomlinson, the younger sister of One Direction heartthrob Louis Tomlinson, is not one of those stories.

The 18-year-old Tomlinson started experimenting with makeup at a young age, practicing on her little sisters, before her big bro's success opened doors for her as well. Fresh out of high school, she began working with Lou Teasdale, the X Factor and One Direction stylist responsible for the looks (and the locks) that made teens around the globe faint. Before long Tomlinson could be found, makeup brush in hand, on the 1D live tour, backstage at London Fashion week, and on Selena Gomez's Revival tour, all the while growing a massive fan base online. She talked to PAPER over email about finding the confidence to do YouTube tutorials, working with her brother, and what she does when she's not making people beautiful.

When did you decide to pursue your interest in beauty as a profession?

I always wanted to pursue make up professionally, but I was so young and didn't know if I had what it takes. I think as I got a little bit older and more experienced, I realized I could really make it my career.

I read that when you finished high school, you asked One Direction stylist Lou Teasdale for an internship. Were you close with her before then?

I had met [her] a couple of times but I didn't know her that well, so I'm lucky she gave me a chance and let me be her assistant!

When did you realize you had a talent for doing makeup?

I just knew I had a passion for makeup. But there's still so much I need to learn and a lot of improvements I can make, so I'm excited to keep practicing and getting better and better.

Last year you were also a part of the team on the One Direction tour. What was it like working alongside your brother?

No. It was amazing working alongside my brother because we shared so many amazing experiences and places with each other.

You're massively popular on social media. Has it always been that way, or has it exploded since you've started to make a name for yourself in the beauty industry?

In the past few years, my social media pages have really blown up and I think some of that may be down to my beauty and fashion posts. I know I love following accounts that post a lot of make up and hair inspos, so I guess that's the same for many of my followers.

You've also done a few YouTube makeup tutorials. What inspired you to start filming them?

I have always loved watching tutorials since I was young. I think I'd always had in mind that one day I could do the same, but for ages I didn't feel confident enough. Once you've done your first few it gets so much easier.

You've also had some fun collaborations recently. You were the face of Ghost Fragrance's Girlcrush and recently helped design the Nails INC 'Good as Gold' Paint Can. How was that ex

[Working with Ghost] was so exciting but also very nerve-racking. It was a totally new experience for me but I absolutely loved it and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it!

I think Nails Inc. wanted to connect with the younger fans of their brand, so they brought me in to help them with ideas to attract a younger audience. I helped design the color and my logo, and it was great to be involved, as its my first collaboration.

Are you interested in eventually creating your own line?

It's definitely a dream to have my own line, it would be amazing!!

What's in store for the future? What do you hope to accomplish later down the line?

I hope to keep improving my skills as a makeup artist and to bring out more fun collaborations.

Because this is a teen-centric series, we like to check in on some "typical teen" things you enjoy, like music. What are you listening to right now?

I love dance music, it my favorite to listen to on a night out!

What do you enjoy doing when you're not on the road, making people beautiful?

I love spending time with my family, I have a massive family and we're all best friends, we have so much fun together.
