Lorde took to Facebook yesterday to write a heartfelt farewell to one of the genre's biggest icons and all-round cultural legend, David Bowie. In the post, she talks about the low-key day they met (at a Vogue benefit honoring Tilda Swinton, of course).
"I played my three songs, thrashing and twitching in platform boots. Afterward, Anna clasped my hand and said 'David wants to meet you,' and led me through people and round tables with candles and glasses and louder and louder talk, and he was there."
When getting to know one another, Lorde mentioned in an interview with RookiethatBowie described her body of work as "listening to the sound of tomorrow," which is quite the honor coming from someone who was regarded as having an incredible knack for making music that was well beyond his time.
"That night something changed in me -- I felt a calmness grow, a sureness. I think in those brief moments, he heralded me into my next new life, an old rock and roll alien angel in a perfect grey suit."
Despite their vast age-gap, their mutual admiration of one another's artistic output resonates in Lorde's message. Peep it below.
